Price: per person or per vehicle
On a group tour, you pay per person. On a private excursion, you pay per vehicle, whatever the number of travellers up to its capacity. For a solo traveller, the group is almost always cheaper. For two, the gap narrows. From three or four travellers, a private excursion often costs the same, or even less.
Also check what's included: on many group excursions, lunch is at a set partner restaurant, and "shopping" stops are added to the itinerary.
Time: the real difference
A group coach picks up travellers from ten or twenty hotels before setting off: it's not unusual to lose an hour in the morning and as much again in the evening. On a private excursion, your driver collects you at the agreed time and takes you straight back.
On site, the group sets the pace: limited time at each stop, waiting for latecomers. On a private excursion, you stay longer where you like it and move on faster elsewhere.
Comfort and freedom
The private vehicle is air-conditioned and just for you: you can leave your belongings on board, stop for a photo or a break, and choose where and when to have lunch. With children or older travellers, that's a real plus.
Group tours have their advantages too: a guide who provides commentary all day, and the company of other travellers. On a private excursion, you can book an official guide at the sites as an option.
So, which should you choose?
- You're travelling alone on a tight budget: a group tour is often better value
- You're a couple who values your freedom: private is worth the extra cost
- You're three or more, or a family: private often costs the same, with far more comfort
- You want a tailor-made programme: only a private excursion allows it

Frequently asked questions
Is a private excursion much more expensive?
Not necessarily: the price is per vehicle. From three or four travellers, it often costs as much as a group excursion.
Does the driver act as a guide?
The driver knows the roads and the sites, but is not an official guide. A guide can be booked as an option at some sites.
Do I have to pay in advance?
No, with us there's no deposit to book: you pay on the spot, on the day of the excursion.
