Port El Kantaoui: what to see and which excursions to take?

With its marina of white houses, its golf courses and its beaches, Port El Kantaoui is the quietest resort in the Sousse area, and an excellent base for exploring central Tunisia.

Port El Kantaoui: what to see and which excursions to take?

Port El Kantaoui at a glance

Built in the late 1970s about ten kilometres north of Sousse, Port El Kantaoui was designed as a Mediterranean village around a marina. Pedestrian lanes, white houses with blue shutters, café terraces: the atmosphere is calmer than in central Sousse.

The hotels line the beach on either side of the marina, and two golf courses stretch out behind the resort.

What to see in town

The marina is best explored on foot, ideally in the late afternoon, when the boats come in and the terraces fill up. Boat trips leave from the harbour in season.

For a more authentic feel, the village of Hergla, some twenty kilometres further north, looks out over the sea from its clifftop; esparto grass is still woven there. And the Sousse medina is only a quarter of an hour away.

The best day trips from Port El Kantaoui

Like Sousse, Port El Kantaoui is ideally placed for El Jem and Kairouan (Line 2), each about an hour away. Monastir and Sousse combine into an easy day out (Line 5).

Friguia Park is about 45 minutes away, a good family outing. For Tunis and Carthage, allow about 1 h 45 on the motorway; for Cap Bon or Dougga, it's a long day, but doable with an early start.

Practical information

Enfidha-Hammamet airport is about 30 minutes away, and Monastir airport also 30 minutes. A little tourist train links the resort with Sousse in season.

Your driver waits for you at your hotel reception or at the entrance to your residence.
