The excursion
The Cap Bon peninsula reaches out towards Sicily, just an hour from Hammamet. With its white-sand beaches, citrus orchards and little fishing ports, it is Tunisia's gentlest region. This excursion takes you all the way round it in a day.
At Kerkouane you'll discover the only Punic town never rebuilt by the Romans: streets, houses and sit-in baths remain just as they were in the 3rd century BC, facing the sea. The site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Further on, Kelibia fort overlooks Mansourah beach, and the caves of El Haouaria – ancient Roman quarries cut into the cliff – look out to the island of Zembra.
The return trip follows the coast road to Korbous, where hot springs pour directly into the sea. With a fresh-fish lunch along the way, it's the ideal excursion for combining history and the seaside.
